本产品利用火焰发出的红外、紫外光探测火灾的传感器称为明火探测器。分为红外线探测器和紫外线探测器。红外线探测器一般用硫化铝、硫化镉等制成的光导电池感应火灾放出的红外线，从而发出电信号报警；紫外线探测器是用紫外光敏电子管接收火焰放出的紫外线，发出火灾报警信号。这种探测器受环境影响小，对火焰反应快，主要用于燃烧速度较快的油类和化学危险物品的场所，不适用于阴燃火灾的探测。
